We have been working on a set of songs which we have been looking at in a variety of ways. Most of the material is generated by me, but we also use songs from the classical, jazz and world repertoire.

Audio

Amarilli (reh) | Amarilli (gig) - Classical melody, mainly unchanged - piano improv
The Cooks Song (JJ)| Leumle (reh) unknown provenance - looped voices, piano, flute
Freedom Jazz Dance (gig) - an impro around fragments of the tune to Emily Dickenson

Leumle: piece derived from an African melodic fragment.
Ave Plena: A reworking of a medieval tune, playing with two parallel time signatures.
Improvisation: using extracts of translated text from Afghanistani poet Rumi
Jasmine: a new take on a piece I wrote in 1992 for Fascinating Days.

Improvisations with Sarah Wall

'You tossed a blanket...'new writing fragment
'Ave plena..' layered ideas on this medieval tune
'Jasmine fragment' one of a stream of new approaches to this old jazz number of mine - see band versions below
'I am gone...' new writing fragment

The first working ideas with Sarah Wall, a classical singer recently arrived in West Cumbria.
We have been meeting in my garden studio recording improvised piano and voice sessions.
We are hoping to integrate them into a full performance featuring Sarah's voice and my compositions, before the end of 2009 - here are the first extracts

1998-2000

Collaborations with Dike Okoh

Rapture - 1999

Jasmine - 1998

Done It - 2000

It was great to work with Dike in completely reworking these songs - he has a great voice and great style.

He sings all the parts on Rapture and added the tune.
The 'Done It' is an unfinished studio version - it has synth bass and sax but I really like the ideas.
